Construction Planning
Lab Curriculum.
STARTING SOON
BUG FOUND: planners who can make a schedule, but cannot recover a delayed plan.
$ step-01 brushup // weeks 1–2 — Topics taught:
- Planning basics: work breakdown, activities, and dependencies.
- Scheduling basics: durations, critical path, and float.
- BOQ basics: quantities, rates, and cost build-up.
- Resource basics: labour, material, and equipment planning.
- Reading drawings and specifications for planning inputs.
- Progress reporting basics: planned vs actual.
$ step-02 debug // weeks 3–4 — Production Debugging. Tools: scheduling tool / Excel, sample plans, BOQs, progress reports.
- BUG #1: Delayed plan: a project slips by weeks — find the critical-path cause, not just the latest activity.
- BUG #2: Estimation error: a BOQ quantity is wrong — find it, correct it, show the cost impact.
- BUG #3: Resource clash: two activities need the same crew / equipment — re-sequence, show the new critical path.
- BUG #4: Missing scope: work exists on site but not in the plan — add it correctly, with time and cost impact.
$ step-03 navigate // weeks 5–7 — Codebase / System Navigation:
- Navigate project plans and contracts: trace a delay to its contractual / site cause, with evidence.
- Re-plan without hiding impact: show original vs revised dates, and what changed.
- Build a progress tracker (planned vs actual, earned value basics) and use it to forecast completion.
- Review a peer's revised plan for hidden float consumption and unrealistic recovery.
$ step-04 ship // weeks 8–9 — Shipping Features: capstone — a revised project plan with a delay note, cost/time impact, and a recovery option, presented as if to a project reviewer.
$ ship → PROOF — exact output: revised project plan, delay note, and a cost/time impact sheet.
